Involvd.com – a sketchy vision

View Comments

I hereby declare that involvd.com will be:

  1. A resource sitting on the net with open access for you to use
  2. Free for you to use (both as in beer and speech)
  3. An open platform that will rely on external developers to help evolve into something relevant, rich and useful for all. There will be therefore be a Developer API and an App Store
  4. Strong on community. Allowing you to support and learn from each other has been shown by countless examples in the last few years to be vastly more powerful than the business to consumer model
  5. Evolving continuously through constant feedback and interaction with you. I’m not precious about the vision (well maybe a little but I’ll do my best to let go) and I fully expect it to change dramatically as it grows and gets older
  6. Like Facebook but will help you get stuff done

The aim is to create this on as little start-up money as possible, in fact to get it to prototype out on the net I’m aiming for an almost zero spend. The aim is to beat Guy Kawasaki´s $12,107.09 to launch www.truemors.com but we’re very different propositions so let’s see where we get to. Money so far? £25.73 for registering www.involvd.com for two years.

The Law

I’m going to start this journey with a few rules of the blog. Not for you really but for me (right now there is only me). This first post may well be a living updateable post that I (and you when you arrive) may come back to make sure I’m staying true to my values before I get infected by various emotions along the way like ambition, failure, disappointment and success (god forbid).

So here goes:

  1. I give you brutal honesty, where possible, at all times – ‘where possible’ because I reserve the right to hold back on stuff that may put myself or others in trouble with the law (don’t worry, I’m not robbing banks)
  2. I will never moderate authentic commentary – steps will be taken to delete spam as that ruins the resource for everybody. Your input, however positive or negative it might be, will be left for I and others to respond to. If you’ve taken the time to write something then I think it’s only fair it’s published (unlike a certain newspaper that I commented on recently)
  3. I will tell you how I feel as well as what I do – I would only be revealing a third of the story if I didn’t tell the emotional story as well as the rational. Plus, it would probably be incredibly dull if I didn’t and I want you to come back
  4. This is the company blog, not solely mine – I think it would be a little strange to setup a business that is so dependent on the community angle and not open the blog up to others in the company. Right now though, it’s just me
